CV

I'm a senior software engineer based in Stockholm with over a decade of experience in the industry. Over the years I've worked on projects covering, mobile, web, and large-scale backend systems, working with product owners, legal teams, and client stakeholders in both B2B and consumer-facing settings to turn hard problems into shipped software. Most recently that's meant sitting at the intersection of engineering and regulation, leading the design of privacy and consent systems that keep large platforms compliant with GDPR and US state privacy laws without losing sight of the person the system is actually for. Wherever I work, the goal is the same: systems that scale, that the next engineer can understand, and that put the user's own choices first.

Work experience

Klarna

Jan 2021 - Present

In contrast to my consulting experience before Klarka. I have stayed with the same team, and largely the same service, through three re-orgs as Klarna's priorities shifted around us: what started as "Marketing Consent" became the Consent & Preferences team, and not too long after my promotion to senior; it merged with the Terms & Conditions team to create "Consent management"; Today we also own the T&Cs CMS and consent tracking alongside marketing consent. Across that whole stretch I went from a minor contributor to the engineer most relied on for understanding how marketing consent actually works, helping it evolve to handle steadily more complex consent types, absorb a sudden spike in load when email sending moved to an internal system that checked consent for millions of recipients at once, and migrate its underlying data structures, all while balancing the tension at the core of the problem: respecting individual user preferences while keeping as large a marketing audience as possible for the business.

Senior Software Engineer
Stockholm, Sweden - Jul 2024 - Present

I took the lead on the technical design of consent systems that let Klarna run new marketing and revenue initiatives while staying compliant with GDPR and a growing patchwork of US state privacy laws. Working closely with product, legal, and marketing stakeholders, I translated shifting regulatory and business requirements into systems built around a simple principle: user choice comes first, with full transparency and control over how data and marketing preferences are used.

Software Engineer
Stockholm, Sweden - Oct 2021 - Jul 2024

I grew from individual contributor into the technical coordinator for the Consent & Preferences team, working across teams to define ownership and agree a shared API contract for consent-related functionality. I led the move from a manual, batch-based process to a Kafka-based streaming solution for GDPR-compliant user deletions, and drove the team's migration to ARM-based cloud CPUs as part of a wider cost-saving push, hitting a critical deadline along the way. I also simplified our pipelines to make it easier for junior developers to contribute, particularly as we prepared for Black Friday traffic peaks.

Software Engineer
Berlin, Germany - Jan 2021 - Oct 2021

I built and maintained the services managing marketing consent and privacy settings for customers across multiple markets and legal jurisdictions, and introduced a buffering mechanism for our batch-processing services so traffic spikes were absorbed rather than causing failures, cutting operational noise and unnecessary alerts.

Kaleidocode Pty Ltd

Software Development Consultant
Durban, South Africa - Jul 2013 - Dec 2020

I worked as a consultant across a wide range of client projects, moving between frontend, backend, and mobile development depending on what each engagement needed. Some projects had me embedded on-site within client teams, others run from the Kaleidocode office, which gave me broad exposure to different industries, teams, and ways of working.

Selected client work via Kaleidocode

Senior Developer (Consultant) – Derivco
Umhlanga, South Africa – Oct 2018 - Jun 2020

As a senior developer on a large-scale gaming platform, I worked to keep the system compliant with GDPR and a constantly shifting landscape of country-specific gambling laws. That meant regularly sitting down with legal teams, client stakeholders, vendors, and deployment engineers to make sure regulatory changes were properly understood before they were implemented and shipped.

Full Stack Developer – GEHS (Government Employees Housing Scheme)
Durban, South Africa – Sep 2015 - Dec 2016

I worked directly with both private and public sector stakeholders to deliver the GEHS enrolment website, a platform used by government employees, building out both the frontend and backend and helping take it from development into production on Microsoft Azure using KnockoutJS and C#.

iOS / Cross-Platform Mobile Developer – LexisNexis South Africa
Durban, South Africa – Jul 2013 - Sep 2015

I led iOS development on the first version of a Xamarin-based mobile app that brought legal publications and case law to lawyers on touch devices, building annotation and highlighting features that stayed reliably in sync across a lawyer's devices. I was also heavily involved in bringing the same application to Android.

Network Support (Current Solutions)

Native iOS Developer
Durban, South Africa - Apr 2012 - Jun 2013

I built an internal iPad/iPhone app, written in Objective-C, that gave field staff a mobile front end for an existing web-based job card system, backed by a Node.js API I designed to support it. To get reliable stylus-based signing working on early iOS hardware, I wrote a custom C++ signature control library to work around the platform's performance limitations, and along the way contributed back to open source, updating the amarcadet/XMLReader library for ARC support during Apple's transition to Automatic Reference Counting. I stayed on to maintain and enhance the application once it was in production.
